Obituary of Joan King I had it all…. but God made me a better offer. Joan (Harmon) King, better known as “Tweetie” to those closest to her, died on April 14, 2018 at the age of 86.

Joan was born on December 19, 1931 in Altoona, PA to the late Edwin and Margaret (Rosensteel) Harmon. She graduated from Dover High School. Her family lived in Denville where she met the love of her life, Donald King, and married in 1950.

They raised 6 “good kids”. Whenever asked what Joan wanted for birthdays or holidays, it was always “just good kids”. Joan worked at Peoples National Bank, Redmond Press and Packers Clothing Store all located in Denville.

She loved her town of Denville and gave so much back in return through her volunteer work at St. Mary’s School where all her good kids attended; the church office; her volunteer work with her husband at St. Clare’s Hospital, the Saints Open Golf Tournament and the Rotary Ann’s. Joan leaves a lifetime of memories to her loving husband of 68 years; her six children Don and wife Kathy of Cincinnati, OH, Kathy and husband Marty of Hawley, PA, Lori and husband Bob of Downingtown, PA, Tom and wife Susan of Newton, NJ, JoAnn and Billy Ray of Naples, FL, and Nancy and husband Jim of Oak Ridge, NJ; her 22 cherished grandchildren Kristen, Dan and his fiancé Angie, Doug and wife Taylor, Matt, Dr. Erin, Joe, Michael, Amy, the late Reverend Father William and his wife Pani Amy, Kevin, Mayor Christopher, Kim and husband Matt, Kate and fiancé Ralph, Andrew, Joe, Christyn and fiancé Vince, Nick, Kelly, Robert, Annie, Emilee, and Simon; 7 great grandchildren Nikole, Aengus, Ellis, Brooke, Warren, Rafael and Scarlett; 2 sisters, Rita (Binky) Grund and her husband Bob from West Caldwell and Mary (Butchie) Devino from Forest Glen, VT and many, many nieces, nephews and friends. A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Wednesday April 18th from 4-8pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave Denville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday April 19th at 10am at St. Mary’s RC Church, 15 Meyers Avenue, Denville, NJ. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Joan, Tweetie, Mom, Grama and Great Grama’s life, please hug a loved one and take a moment to express the value they bring to your life.
