PORT BYRON | JoAnne Applebee Hempel, passed away on Sept. 29, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Guy and Doris Applebee, and was born March 29, 1956 in Port Byron.

She graduated from Port Byron Central High School in 1974 as a member of the Port Byron honor society. She married Daniel Hempel on May 17, 1975. They had two sons, Jonathan, of Jackson, Ky.

, and Nathan, of Carlisle, Pa. Jon is married to Alison and they have six children. Nate is married to Jessie and they have two sons.

JoAnne was an active member of the Conquest Fire Department for more than 25 years. She had volunteered as the organist at Countryside Church for many years; as well as taught Sunday school. She worked as a bookkeeper at Sunset Harvest Realty the last couple of years.

JoAnne enjoyed collecting dolls, painting, and reading. JoAnne is survived by and will be missed by her husband, children, and grandchildren; as well as three brothers, a sister, and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours for JoAnne will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct.

5, at Audioun Funeral Home LLC in Port Byron. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, in Countryside Church in Spring Lake, followed by a graveside service in Conquest.
