Jody Leon Cooksey, 90, of Mt. Sterling, died Sunday, December 9, 2018 at his residence in Mt. Sterling.

He was born in Washington County on March 5, 1928 to the late Birchel and Marjorie Jenkins Cooksey. Jody was a charter member and served as an Elder at Gateway Christian Church, retired from sales and was a Veteran of the United States Navy. Those in Jody’s company always felt welcome because he never met a stranger.

He liked to hunt and fish and is his youth he played; basketball, baseball and softball. Jody enjoyed music, playing guitar, and loved his family. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.

Survivors include; his loving wife of 68 years Laverne Coyle Cooksey of Mt. Sterling; four daughters, Phyllis Montgomery (Danny) of Mt. Sterling, Betty Jo Emery (Glenn) of Mt.

Sterling, Annette Trent (Dan) of Auburn, Washington and Marylene Gorrell (Merrell) of Owingsville; one sister Betty Jane Cheser of Willisburg; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Gateway Christian Church. Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 11:30AM.

Visitation will be prior from 10:00AM – 11:30AM. Both will be held at Gateway Christian Church in Mt. Sterling, KY.

Pastor Glenn Emery and Pastor Bill Kilgore will be officiating the service.
