OBITUARY Joe R. Sayers January 7, 1928 – November 10, 2018 Services for Joe R. Sayers, 90, will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Troy Parker of Church at Red River. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive guests on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Sayers was born January 07, 1928 in Summerfield, LA to Joel T. and Clara M. Sayers and passed away on November 10, 2018. Joe was the youngest of ten children raised on the family’s farm outside of Summerfield. After graduating high school, Joe worked for a brief time at the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant in Doyline, LA.

He joined the United States Air Force in 1948 and proudly served our country for 27 years, retiring in 1974 as a Chief Master Sergeant. While stationed in Indiana he met the love of his life, Mary F. Johnson. Joe and Mary were married on May 05, 1950.

They made their home on Lake Bistineau upon Joe’s retirement where they enjoyed spending time with their family and spoiling their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Sayers was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Thomas Sayers, Morrell Sayers, Denson Sayers and Ellery Sayers, sisters: Josie Hamilton, Minnie Routel, Maybelle Duke and Lois Taylor. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Sayers, daughters: Susi Sayers and fiancé, Dan Chambers, of Overland Park KS, Mary Jo Sayers of Shreveport, LA, son, Stan Sayers and wife Patricia of Columbus, GA, twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

The family wants to thank Dr. Veluvolu, Dr. McRight and his Lifepath Hospice nurses Melissa and Kate. Also, a special thank you to the Shreveport Fire Department and Shreveport Police Department. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the HHT Foundation at hht.org or The American Cancer Society.
