Obituary for John Burket John W. Burket, 80 of Sinking Valley, died Thursday,December 20, 2018 at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Tyrone, the son of the late Ross C. And Elizabeth Brown Burket. On August 7, 1959 John married Sandra Getz Burket who survives.

Also surviving are a son: Richard Burket; a daughter: Susan (Tom) Zerbe both of Sinking Valley; a daughter-in-law: Tracy Burket of Alexandria; a brother: Robert C. (Charlotte) Burket of Van Buren, AR; and a sister: Dorothy (William) Stahl of Martinsburg; 9 grandchildren: Katie Burket, Noelle (Darin) Hand, Dustin Yothers (Rick Prettyman), Christin (Andy) Rhoades, Valerie (JR) House, Dannelle Burket (Kenny Lonsinger), Alyssa (Nate) Woodring, Dakota and Nicholas Burket; and 13 great-grandchildren: Phoenix, Hollynd, Balin, Blaize, Piper, Rilynn, Camden, Kayden, McKenzie, Riley, Raylee, Arabella, and Jaxon. He was preceded in death by sons: Timothy and Scott Burket. John was a 1956 graduate of Tyrone High School and studied agriculture at Cornell University.

He was a lifelong farmer and belonged to many agricultural organizations. John served Tyrone Township for over 50 years, occupying many roles including both secretary and supervisor. He sat as a member of the Tyrone Hospital board and was also a former president.

He served as treasurer and trustee for the Sinking Valley Presbyterian Church as well as the secretary for the Arch Sping Cemetery. John was an avid bowler and also enjoyed playing softball. He enjoyed listening to country music, particularly Chet Atkins, and was also a fan of western movies.

John was a regular at Diner 22 and could also be seen trucking as he transported grain and stone to one of his many destinations. He was well known for always helping others and his vast knowledge of the valley and farming will be greatly missed. Above everything else, John enjoyed spending time and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. An 11 AM funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at the Sinking Valley Presbyterian Church with Reverends Ernest Walls and Barry Vance officiating. Friends will also be received from 10 AM until the time of service on Thursday.
