John Clifton Jossey, Jr. February 12, 1925 – November 6, 2018 AIKEN – John Clifton Jossey passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the age of 93. Raised through the great depression, John entered World War II and served as a tail gunner trainer on the B-24 for the Air Corps. After the service, John married Dorothy “Bonell” Smith of College Park, GA and had two children, Russell Lee and John Stuart.

John and Bonell were married for 50 years during which time they traveled the world for business and pleasure. John worked for Lockheed Martin in Marietta GA during the 1950s and then joined the sales force of Capitol Records. John rose through the sales ranks of Capitol serving as sales manager in Miami, Cleveland, Chicago, and Hollywood.

In the late 1960s, John became Vice President of Sales and received a Gold Record with Glen Campbell for the album Wichita Lineman. John left Capitol in 1972 and ran several independent music companies in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Nashville. After Bonell’s passing in Brentwood, TN in 1996, John moved to Ocala, FL where he met his second wife, Betty Washburn.

The two had a beautiful romance that lasted 20 years. John and Betty were residents in Ocala for 10 years and then settled in Aiken, SC for the final 10 years at The Reserve in Woodside Plantation. John was an avid golfer with five hole-in-ones and shot his age numerous times before playing his final round after passing the age of 90.

John was preceded in death by his wives, Bonell and Betty, and his son Russell Lee. He leaves behind his remaining son, John Stuart (Lynn), stepson Van (Cassie), stepdaughter Wendy (Walter), four grandchildren, Breana (Mark), Weston (Stephanie), Brandon (Becca), and Christine, and six stepchildren Bradley (Sarah), Bailey, Seth, Briana, Megan, and Taryn. A memorial service will be held 2:30 PM Saturday, February 16, 2019 at St. John’s United Methodist Church of Aiken.
