John E. Stemen, 73, of Middle Point, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Van Wert Health Emergency Room. He was born December 21, 1945, in Van Wert, to the late Everett “Nick” and Nina (McClure) Stemen. A 1964 graduate of Lincolnview High School, John proudly went on to serve his country in the United States Army during Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

He retired as a Staff Sergeant. John married the love of his life, Sue Kayser on November 8, 1968. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was a member of the Middle Point Am Vets and the Van Wert VFW and American Legion. His is survived by his wife, Sue Stemen of Middle Point; daughter, Nicole”Nicki” (Jeffrey Knapke) Stemen of Celina and grandson, Ian Bracey of Mendon. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Stemen.

Military honors will be rendered at 5 PM Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 5 PM. Memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to the Middle Point Am Vets. Arrangements entrusted to Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home.
