Ellabell, John Edward Monroe, 78, died on May 29, 2019 at Memorial Health University in Savannah. He was born in Savannah to Charles and Lois Coley Monroe. After graduation from high school, he joined the Marines and served in Vietnam.

He was injured while in the Marines and was classified as a Disabled Veteran. Once he was out of the service, he went to work and retired from Bell South. John will be remembered for his devotion to his family.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Barbara Jean Monroe, sons, Dewayne, Robert, Danny, all of Ellabell, Stephen, Marietta, Sisters, Judy Jones, Norfolk Virginia, Edna Daley, Cornelia, brothers, Charles H. Monroe, Jimmy Monroe, both of Guyton, Robert Monroe, Texas, grandchildren Whitney Marie Monroe, John Robert Monroe, both of Ellabell, Julian Monroe, Jackson, Jordan Monroe, Madison, great granddaughter, Evelyn, numerous nieces and nephews. The family plans to have a Memorial Service at a later date. Low Country Cremation & Burial is serving the Monroe family.
