PAINTER, John Emanuel “Jagoo”, age 96, of Dayton, born January 18, 1922 in Mayslick, Kentucky to the late Henry Wesley and Sara Ellen Taylor Painter, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Hospice of Dayton. John received his education at Mayslick John G. Fe High School and received a master’s degree at New York Technical Institute of Engineers. He served five years in the U. S. Army where he received the Decoration Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star.

He served in WWII, frontline infantry where he was stationed in New Guinea. John’s highest grade rank before his Honorable discharge was Sergeant. As a testimonial of a honest and faithful server of his country, John was the first man of color at Crosley in Cincinnati, OH, and then, became employed at Wright-Patterson AFB as a airplane mechanic, and a lab technician at NCR.

He retired from GM/Harrison Radiator after 34 ½ years as an electronic technician furnace operator. In John’s leisure time, he enjoyed his family, playing the harmonica and watching “his” Cincinnati Reds. Preceded in death by his brother, Earl Thomas Painter; grandparents and uncles.

He leaves to cherish his devoted “Heartbeat”: his devoted wife of 63 years, Ollie B. Painter; sons, Andre’ A. Painter Sr., Shawn D. (Stephanie) Painter; daughter, Monja L. Painter-Brown; grandchildren, Andre’ A. Painter Jr., Tierra Renee’ Painter Ryan, Emanuel Brown, Ethan Shawn Painter; great grandchildren, Kaylen Renee’ Stovall, Andre’ A. Painter, III; sisters-in-law, Hattie Painter and Josephine Phillips; brother-in-law, Charles W. Moore, all of Columbus, OH; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service will be held 10 am Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave. Rev.

Lamont Monroe officiating. Visitation 8:30-10 am. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

Interment Dayton National Cemetery.
