Mr. John F. “Johnny” Groover, age 76 of Cedartown passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019. Mr. Groover was born December 31, 1942 in West Virginia, son of the late John Freeman Groover and the late Kathryn Forbes Groover. He lived most of his life in Lithia Springs before moving to Polk County in 2002.

He was a retired realtor having been the owner of John F. Groover & Associates of Douglasville. Johnny served on the Douglas County Board of Commissioners for eight years and was the Polk County Representative for the Coosa River Soil and Water Conservation District. He was on the board of Re Conservation and Development for 21 years where he served as president for many years.

Mr. Groover was an active member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Rockmart. His passion was singing, and he enjoyed the church choir and Rockmart Community Chorus. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Jarrell Groover of Cedartown to whom he was married April 8, 1976; two daughters, Debra C. Floyd and Alicia G. Jackson both of Douglasville; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Michelle Groover of Douglasville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Richard Hartis of Moore, South Carolina and Sharon and Terry Garfield of Linden, Michigan; brother and sister-in-law, David and Marilyn Mize of Nashville, Tennessee; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Groover will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Rockmart with Rev. Jason Odom and Dr. Bill Heaton officiating. Mr. Groover will lie in state at the church on Saturday prior to the service from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: David Jackson, Glenn Campbell, Ronnie Campbell, Bub Landrum, Danny Harrison and Ronald Couch.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, January 25, 2019 between the hours of 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. Freeman Harris Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral services for Mr. John F. “Johnny” Groover.
