John Fred Townsend 1934 – 2019 Inlet: John Fred Townsend, 84 passed away peacefully on Thursday May 2, 2019 after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Barnes Corners on August 27, 1934 to the late Leon and Irene (Stoddard) Townsend.

John served in the United States Army from 1957-1959. On May 26, 1960 he was united in marriage to the love of his life Elaine (Payne) who predeceased him on September 3, 2006. Mom and Dad raised their family in Inlet.

Together they ran Townsend’s Gulf gas station and grocery store in the 1960’s and1970’s. Dad was the Sawyer at Payne & Levi; Levi Sawmill/Levi Lumber for over 55 years. Dad loved to work and be around people.

He loved hunting and fishing with his children, grandchildren and friends. He always looked forward to spring time at camp on Raquette Lake with his family and friends. He was a life time member of the Inlet Volunteer Hose Company and was an ambulance driver for the Leonard Mick Roberts Post 1402.

He is survived by his children; Susan (George) Brownsell III, John II (Misty), Donald (Amy) Townsend, Becky (Jason Pallotta) Townsend, Andrew (Kimberly). Grandchildren; George (Ashley) Brownsell IV, Jessica (Tim Leach) Brownsell, Eric (Jessica) Brownsell, Autumn Townsend, Joseph Townsend, Bryan (Sarah Smith) Townsend, Shelby Townsend, Kayla (Ben Courtney) Cleaveland, Trevor Townsend, and Tanner Townsend. Great Grandchildren; Hunter Levi; Shayla Brownsell, Nikolai Townsend, and Lukas Townsend.

Sisters: Martha (Don) DeChristopher, Joan Davis, Genny Tuttle. Sister; Brother In-Law John Levi; Lynda Levi, and Brother in-law James Payne. Countless nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was predeceased by his Brother Leon, Sisters; Alice, Rosemary, Helen, Leona, and Mary. Per John’s wishes there will be no calling hours or a funeral service.
