John Gary Crain, 75, of Hamburg, died Monday, May 13, 2019. Mr. Crain was a native of Lacey and a resident of the Milo Community outside of Hamburg for the past 52 years. He graduated in 1961 from Drew Central High School and attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where he played basketball in 1962.

Mr. Crain worked for the Georgia-Pacific Corporation for 44 years, having retired in 2006. He loved his church family and was an active member of the Mt. Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church.

He was a Mason and a member of the Prairie Lodge #465. Mr. Crain enjoyed being outdoors and working in his garden. He loved his family and enjoyed watching his grandchildren in sports and all of their activities.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Sam Crain Stanley in 2006 and his parents, Earston & Hazel Cowan Crain. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sheliah Meeks Crain of Hamburg; his daughters, Sissi Cruce and husband, Wayne, of Lacey and Nikki Fitzgerald and husband, Jon, of Crossett; a brother, Robert “Bobby” Crain and wife, Beverly, of Selma and six grandchildren, Randa Matkin, Garrett Pruitt, Ali Jo Cruce, Shay Straub, Boots Stanley and Cagan Calhoun; five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 2 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the Mt.

Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Keith Boseman officiating. Burial will be with full Masonic honors in the Lacey Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Danny Wade Rice, Fred Hollis, Jimmy Meeks, Randal Meeks, Wayne Neal, Paul Wilkerson, Dickie Meeks and Joe Allen Meeks. Honorary pallbearers are Timmy Craig, Julian Estelle, Pat Allison, Mike Richard, Benny Cochran, James Robert Meeks, John Richardson, Frank McMahan, Dr. Michael Fakouri and the Drew Central High School Class of 1961. Memorials may be made to the Mt.

Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, 310 Ashley Road 95, Hamburg, AR 71646. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at the church.
