John Gordon Rentz , July 21, 1961 — March 13, 2019

Augusta, GA …. Mr. John Gordon Rentz, 57, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 after an extended illness. His memorial service will be held on March 22, 2019 (Friday) at 11:00 AM at Victory Baptist Church, 620 W. Martintown Road, North Augusta, South Carolina.

Rev. Chris Dickert and Mr. Richard Mills will officiate the service. The family will begin greeting friends at 10:00 AM in the church sanctuary.

Mr. Rentz was fondly known by several names; John, Gordon, John Gordon, John Boy, JB, and Uncle Gordon. He was born in Fort Hood, Texas, on July 21, 1961 to the late George and Miriam Murray Rentz. He graduated from Georgia P. Butler High School in Augusta and worked several years as a fire sprinkler installer/technician.

When he entered a building, his first instinct was to try and locate the fire protection equipment and piping. He lived in Summerville, SC several years and was recently employed by the local Shimano Corporation. In 2016, he was diagnosed with Early On-set Alzheimer’s and relocated from Summerville to Augusta where he lived with his sister and brother-in-law.

He began attending Victory Baptist Church where he came to know the Lord as his personal Savior and became a faithful church member. He loved his family, his church, its members, and his Pastor. He was always quick to share a hug, joyful smile, and thumbs-up to all.

John and Diane joined the Early Stage Program of the Augusta Alzheimer’s Association. Then one day he learned about the Day One Fitness Boxing program, he was hooked. After joining Day One Fitness, he was then fondly called “JB” by Coach Tambra and fellow boxers.

His survivors include his caregiver and sister Diane Shelton (Harry) of Augusta, GA, a brother Ron Rentz (Christa) of Taylors, SC, beloved several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a very special friend. A heart-felt thank-you to Tambra Wilkerson (Day One Fitness) and Beth Williams (Augusta Georgia Alzheimer’s Association) for your love and support of John.
