Obituary for John Guy Mingione, Jr. John Guy Mingione Jr., age 75, of Willowick, peaceful passed away April 14, 2018 surrounded by his loved ones, after his 2 year battle with cancer. He was born in Cleveland, on November 15, 1942 to John and Mary Mingione, both deceased. John was a U.S. Navy Veteran, during the Vietnam Era.

He was a member of the American Legion, post 678. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Magdalene Church, where he married his wife Helga in 1970. John graduated in 1962 from Shaw High School.

His biggest hobby was attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a loyal Browns, Indians and Buckeye Fan. John enjoyed cooking, his specialty was “Papa’s Sauce”.

He also enjoyed collecting state coins for his grandsons. He was a great influence on many. He was optimistic, loyal and a gentleman, with a great sense of humor.

John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, cousin, uncle, great uncle, great-great-uncle and friend. In honor of John, if you’re brave enough, please join the family in wearing Cleveland Browns’ sportwear during his visitation and remember as John would say, “There’s always next year”. John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helga Maria Mingione (Lackner), his children, Christine (Rick) Miller and Guy Mingione, his grandchildren, William Jr. (Fiancée: Carly Sivillo) and Dominic Long, Ricky Jr. and Christopher Miller, his sisters, Rita (Lewis) DiJulius and Marie (Tony, Deceased) Rizzo, sister-in-law, Sally Viola and brother-in-law, Herman (Sue) Lackner.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Don, Chuck, Christine and Bill. A special Thank You to all the nurses and staff at Hillcrest Hospital who took great care of John throughout his treatments. A funeral mass for John will be April 21, Saturday, 10:30 am at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 32114 Vine St., Willowick.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 20, 2018 from 4 to 8pm at the Monreal Funeral Home, 35400 Curtis Blvd. , Eastlake. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of John Guy Mingione, Jr. please visit our Sympathy Store.
