Obituary for Mr. John Hillard Slaughter Slaughter, John H. (82) of Norwalk California, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2018. Services will held on Monday, June 11, 2018 at Chapel of Change at 11:00 AM. 6701 Alondra Blvd.

, Paramount California 90723. Viewing will be at Stonebridge Funeral and Cremation Services 17409 Woodruff Ave. , Bellflower California 90706 on Sunday, June 10th, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

A private, immediate family only Burial Service will be held on Tuesday at 11:30 AM at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside California. John Hillard Slaughter was the seventh child of ten children born to the late Robert F. and Sadie M. Slaughter on Sunday, March 29th, 1936. John is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Lawerence Slaughter, Gerald Slaughter and Robert Slaughter, his sisters, Emma Jean Montgomery and Marilyn Thomas and his granddaughter Kennedy Cargus.

In 1942, at the early age of 4, John accepted Christ and was baptized at Mars Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Liggins in Valley Mills, Texas. After attending school in Hewitt Public School in Valley Mills and Jefferson Moore High School in Waco, Texas, John relocated to Los Angeles, California with his Aunt Nettie and Uncle Leonard Jones.

He graduated from Manuel Arts High School in 1956. After high school, John enlisted in the United States Marines. After serving a full term, he retired at the rank of Sergeant.

Two additional years were spent as a Marine Reserve. John eventually became an airplane mechanic, working first for Menasco Airport in Burbank, California and later for McDonnell Douglas in Culver City and Torrance, California. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of sixty years, Erma; sons, LeDarral (Marilyn) of Lithonia, Georgia, Rory of Spokane, Washington; daughters, Jeanette (Daleel) of Riverdale, Georgia, Rachelle, Kimberly (Frank) of Norwalk, California, Tamara (Harvey) of Carson, California and Shakina (Richard) of Victorville, California; 30 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Brother Todd (Mary) Slaughter of Waco, Texas; sisters, Mattie (Frank) Robinson, Arlillian (George) Vance and Sadie L. Harper; sister-in-laws, Dorothy Slaughter, Louise Slaughter and Alverta Slaughter of Waco, Texas, and Mary Lou Johnson of Middleton, Rhode Island; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones.
