John Jarrell Whitelaw, 100, of Baltimore, Md. , went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. He was born June 17, 1918 in Highland County, the son of the late Robert Thomas Whitelaw and Lucy Kramer (Wiley) Whitelaw.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. Mr. Whitelaw retired from Bethlehem Steel Corporation in 1976. He grew up in Highland County and moved to Baltimore after the war but remained a part of Highland all his life.

He enjoyed antiquing and spending the summers in Mill Gap since his retirement. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife Loleta Ayers Whitelaw; his eldest son John Whitelaw Jr.; and brothers Clyde Whitelaw and Eugene Whitelaw.

He is survived by his son, Ronald Whitelaw; five grandchildren; as well as, six great-grandchildren. A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the Monterey Cemetery with Pastor Bobbie Jo Gardner officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 268, Monterey, Va.
