John Laurie Schulz was born in Hendricks, MN November 6th, 1947 to Clarence and Thelma Schulz. He grew up in White, South Dakota. After high school graduation duty called and enlisted in the United States Army.

After serving 3 years in the Army, with the majority of his time enlisted spent overseas in the Vietnam War, John enrolled at South Dakota State University. Once John graduated with a Bachelors in nursing, he started his career, as a Registered Nurse (RN) caring for others, at a VA hospital at Ft. Snelling, MN.

In Minneapolis, Mn at the world renowned “Purple Rain”, John met his future wife Marsha Ann Burns. On Sept. 3rd 1977 they married and went to the Denver, CO for their Honeymoon where they fell in love with the State of Colorado.

In 1979, John joined the Army as an officer with a rank of 1st Lieutenant and was stationed Ft. Stewart, GA for 3 years where he welcomed two sons into this world. The next tour took John to Frankfurt, Germany from 1982 to 1985 then to Ft.

Still, OK where he welcomed another son into the world. After Oklahoma, in 1990 John received orders for Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado until 1992 due to the bases up and coming base closure. While at Fitzsimons, John moved his family to Castle Rock, CO.

In order to keep his family in Colorado where he wanted to raise his children, John made a sacrifice in the form of a one-year tour in Seoul, South Korea away from his family in order for his family to have more continuity and establish roots in Colorado. Upon his return from Korea, John’s last station was at Ft. Carson, CO where he retired as a Major from the Army in 1997.

After the Army John worked as an RN for the State of Colorado for 13 years. In John’s early years he enjoyed hunting and had a passion for cars, in particular classic mustangs. Once in retirement John enjoyed collecting vintage toys and playing poker or watching sports with his boys.

In total John and Marsha resided in Castle Rock, CO for 17 years and then moved to Larkspur, Colorado where they presently resided until his death. Surviving John is his wife Marsha of Larkspur, CO; three sons Christian “Chris, C.K” of Castle Rock, CO; John “J” of Davenport, IA and Jason of Aurora, CO. Additionally, John was survived by five siblings Karl (Donna) of Twin Valley, MN; Jeff of White, SD; Chuck (Linda) of Yankton, SD; Mona (Chuck) of Sioux City, IA; Gary (Socorro) of Bonsall, CA and one sister-in-law Barb Schulz of White, SD.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Ray and Bob), one sister-in-law Darlene and one infant daughter Laurie Ann.
