Obituary of John Luther Windrow, III Brownsville, TN-September 24, 1949-July 8, 2018, John Luther Windrow, III, eldest child of Paul Moody Windrow and Elizabeth “Bo” Kinney Windrow Pope passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Windrow and Bo Windrow Pope and by his step-father, William David Pope. Mr. Windrow graduated from the University of Missouri in 1972.

After graduation he received a commission as a Naval Ensign and was assigned to the USS Chicago, a heavy missile cruiser which was based in San Diego, California served in the navy until 1976, rising to the rank of LT (jg). After discharge from the navy, John worked for newspapers in Missouri, Texas, Germany, Minnesota and Hawaii, also earning a Master’s in Journalism from the University of Missouri and a Master’s in Communication at the University of Minnesota. Mr. Windrow later taught at Hawaii Pacific University and, most recently, was a regular contributor to the Brownsville Press.

He also authored two novels, “Murderer’s Home” and “Gone To My Head”. John is survived by his wife, Patricia Laurel of San Pablo, Philippines, and his sisters, Nancy Windrow of Knoxville, TN and Dorothy Windrow of Raleigh, North Carolina. Pallbearers will be Joe McCool, Leslie McCool, Winston Gaffron, Jim Duke, Kent Moore and Greg Emery.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Smith, Wilson Powell, Tommy Timbes and Harold Hendrix. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, July 15, 2018 in the First Presbyterian Church, Brownsville with burial to follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M., Sunday, July 15, 2018 in the First Presbyterian Church, Brownsville.

Memorials may be made in memory of John to the First Presbyterian Church of Brownsville, 109 W. College St. Brownsville, TN 38012.
