He later remarried Fay on May 3, 1980 in Roswell, GA. He was an avid Falcons football and Yellow Jackets fan and on occasion, when no one was watching you could hear him cheering for the Dawgs. He ran several successful businesses in the Atlanta area over the years and employed many people.

For many years he owned and operated several apartment complexes under the corporate entity of Bowen & Perry Realty and later a contracting company, F&B Services. After he retired, he enjoyed boating at his home on Lake Lanier with his wife and boys, but John built and lived with his family in homes in Roswell, Sandy Springs, Crabapple and Cumming throughout his life.
