John Patrick Herward, 74, of Mt. Lebanon, died peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, May 31, 2018. Son of the late Patrick and Ellin McGovern Herward, John was the beloved husband for 36 years of Noreen Werling Herward; the devoted father of Ellin Herward Wade (Travis) and Julie Herward McConnell (Forrest); the adoring “Pap” of Mason and Marie Wade; and the dear brother of Thomas J. and Patrick “Joe” Herward.

He also is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. John was born and raised in Pittsburgh, where he attended St. Basil’s School and Duquesne University. He also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

John valued time with his wife, daughters and grandchildren above all else. His family was the object of endless stories shared with all who crossed his path. John met many strangers but few parted ways without trading a story or two with him.

The family will receive friends at Laughlin Cremation and Funeral Tributes, Inc., 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, SUNDAY from 6-8 pm and MONDAY from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral Mass in St. Anne Church Tuesday at 11 am (Friends, please meet at church).

Interment with Military Honors will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at 1 pm. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, please consider making a contribution to St. Anne Church, 400 Hoodridge Drive, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15234.
