John R. Kirchhof, 82, died Tuesday, May 21, 2019 in Wilbraham. He was born October 9, 1936 in New York City, son of John C. Kirchhof and Clara (Heinsohn) Kirchhof. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School, Brooklyn, New York, and moved to Granby, Massachusetts, with his parents.

He has an Associate of Science from Holyoke Community College, a Bachelor of Science from Western New England College and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Studies from American International College. John worked as a draftsman for various companies in the Springfield area. He attained the rank of Captain in the Massachusetts Army National Guard and served as Commanding Officer of the National Guard Headquarters Company in Chicopee, Massachusetts.

He joined the Granby Police Department in 1958 and became Chief of Police, serving nineteen years. He left the Granby department for the position of Chief of Police for the Town of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, serving until retirement in 1992. Subsequent employment included Adjunct Faculty instructing Criminal Justice at Holyoke Community College and Bay Path College.

He also taught for the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council and the Safety Council of Western Massachusetts. John was a twenty year appointee to the Governor’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee. He was a long time member of the Vernon Lodge of Masons (now merged into Mt.

Holyoke Lodge. ) He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Margerie A. (French) Kirchhof. John leaves a son, Steven J. Kirchhof and daughter-in-law Stacy A. (Geisel) Kirchhof of Versailles, Kentucky.

He is also survived by grandchildren, Marine Lance Corporal Taylor Kirchhof deployed to Darwin, Australia, Shawn W. Kirchhof of Versailles, Kentucky and Danielle R. Kirchhof of Versailles, Kentucky. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, May 28, 2019 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Road, Wilbraham, MA 01095.
