John R. Overly, Jr., 92, of Unity Township “Humphreys”, died Thursday, December 13, 2018. He was born December 4, 1926 in Waltz Mills, a son of the late John R. Sr. and Edna M. (Bednar) Overly. Prior to retirement he worked at US Steel Edgar Thomson Works in Braddock.

He was a US Army veteran of WWII and an avid hunter. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ethel M. “Barbs” (Brklycica) Overly, and several brothers and sisters, he was the second oldest of 12 in his family. He is survived by 11 children, Alice Marie Lutz and husband Joe, John R. III, Patricia Dovie, William and wife Gayle, David and wife Karlene, Mary Walden and husband Rob, Timothy and wife Sandra, Joseph and wife Coleen, Carl and wife Deborah, Helen Bates and husband George and Darlene Overly, 30 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Monday at the Leo M. Bacha Funeral Home, Inc., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity where funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday. Military honors by VFW Post #33 honor guard and interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. www.
