He was born September 19, 1951 at Fort Worth, Texas to Louis Roy and Marian (Stowell) Bennett. Big John was a welder with Chevron and a member of the NRA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Louis Roy Bennett, Jr. His survivors include: 2 daughters: Tammy Bennett and Brent Shira of Fritch, Texas and Marion Dooley and husband Howard of Muleshoe, Texas; a son John Thomas Bennett, Jr. and wife Amy of Amarillo, Texas; 2 sisters: Bridget Easton and Jane Pritchett both of Fort Worth, Texas; 2 brothers: Benny Lee Bennett and wife Pat of Amarillo, Texas and Michael Louis Bennett and wife Peggy of Trinidad, Colorado; 6 grandchildren: Michael Bennett and wife Kelly of Borger, Texas, Lainie Bennett , Caitlin Bennett and Kelsie Bennett all of Amarillo, Texas, Rage Williams of Fritch, Texas and Preston Dooley of Muleshoe, Texas and 1 great grandchild, Knox Michael Bennett. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Celebration Church, Fritch. Services are entrusted to Brown Funeral Directors, Fritch.
