WUNDER, John Edward, Sr, age 94 of Kettering, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Hospice of Dayton. John was born on July 7, 1923 in Howe, IN. He graduated from Lima High School in 1941 where he was a star basketball player.

John graduated from Purdue University with a BSME in 1948, followed by graduate work at MIT. He proudly served in The Army Air Corp as a B-24 pilot in WWII. After returning from Italy, he married the joy of his life, Barbara Schaeffer in 1945.

John was a member of Fairmont Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and served as a Deacon, Board Trustees, and Elder. He was a master Mason of Kendallville, IN Lodge 276 F & AM. John was master of his lodge in 1955 and was also a member of Antioch Shrine, and Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton.

He was patriotic, displaying colors every morning with the playing of Reveille, and taking down the flag in the evening while playing taps. John received a letter of commendation from President George W. Bush. He loved gardening and often ate his veggies right out of the garden.

John also loved woodworking; making a cradle for his grandchild, entryway tables, heart-shaped tables, step-stools, and numerous other items for family and friends. He was a hard-working man, a fun friend, a strick father, and always full of love. He is preceded in death by his parents, George & Effie (Feister) Wunder of Howe, IN; sons, John Jr. and William; daughter-in-law, Amy Wunder; as well as his siblings: Lawrence, Helen, Ford, Jean and Duane.

John is survived by his wife of almost 73 years, Barbara; children, Nick Wunder, Margaret “Margie” Hass, Elizabeth “Beth” (Al) Wyrick, Robert “Bob” (Patty) Wunder, Rachael Wunder; grandchildren, Julie (Shon), Tommy (Erica), Jennifer (Lance), Katherine, Michael, Alex; great-grandchildren, Kielly, Kaylee, Kaladin; and many cousins. Family will greet friends 6-8pm on Friday, April 27 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E Stroop Rd, Kettering. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday, April 28, at Fairmont Presbyterian Church, 3705 Far Hills Ave, Kettering.

Burial at David’s Cemetery.
