Johnny’s Obituary Johnny entered this world on March 7, 1928 to the proud parents, Johnny L. Davis Sr., and Fletcher (Griffin) Davis. Johnny was an only child and loved by his many aunts and uncles on both his parents’ side of the family. His family nicknamed him “Bay” and he was known by all in the small town of Tuskegee, Alabama.

Johnny attended Tuskegee High School located in Tuskegee Alabama. Upon graduation, he enrolled at Tuskegee Institute now known as Tuskegee University. Johnny was then drafted into the Army.

He lived in Germany for a short while and within that time he perfected the language and spoke it fluently. Johnny fought in the Korean War and was wounded and later honorably discharged as a disabled Veteran. Johnny was united in holy matrimony to Ernestine Webb Davis on December 23, 1965.

The two moved to New York and settled there, making Brooklyn their home for the last 50 years plus. From that union they had two children; Phyllis (Davis) Mclean and Johnny Davis. Johnny also had two daughters from previous marriages: Brenda and Carolyn.

Johnny was a doting father and loved all of his children. Johnny had a passion for “horse racing” and he loved it so much that his new friends in New York nicknamed him “racetrack”. Johnny loved to spend time at the track watching the horse’s race.

Johnny loved to travel and being in the army afforded him that opportunity. He loved to watch movies and was a huge Jazz fan. He often told stories about him knowing the great “Lola Falana”.

Dad had an endless collection of jazz music including the likes of; Bobby Bland and Nina Simone. Dad was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years who passed on the day of their 50th wedding anniversary. Also preceding him in death, are his parents: Johnny Davis and Fletcher (Davis) Cooks.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: four children, Brenda Knox of Huntsville, Alabama, Carolyn D. Bosa (Julio) of Jersey City, New Jersey, Phyllis Davis-Mclean of Brooklyn, New York and Johnny Davis Jr.III (Kasha) of Jersey City, New Jersey; seven grandchildren, Krystal Patterson (Oreste), Denzel Matthew, Ricky Davis, Carlos Davis, Morgan Knox, Cinaya J. Mclean, Aaron Bosa, Jayden Davis, and Kasey Davis; 10 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren. He will miss the arrival of his last grandchild that is expected to be here in March/April of 2019. We were blessed beyond measure to have such a wonderful patriarch in our family.

Although he will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him, we thank God for the time that we had with him and for the memories that will live in our hearts for always.
