John Robert Szabo, Jr., passed away on January 30, 2019. Born on December 19, 1962, “Johnny” as he was lovingly called, was an amazing son, brother, father, and uncle. He always loved to draw, as a child, and had a career as a retail display designer at The Royal Group in Marlton, NJ.

In his spare time, he created pieces of art that were displayed in various venues in New Jersey and New York and won numerous awards and accolades. His drawings are featured in Contemporary Paintings by Danijela Kracum & Charles McFadden and in Hidden Treasure Art Magazine Yearbook 2014. Johnny grew up in Hamilton Square, NJ and attended Steinert High School and graduated from Mercer County Community College with a degree in graphic arts.

His creativity allowed him to flourish in the artistic world and those who worked with him respected him as a professional and loved his sense of humor. He could light up a room as soon as he entered and his unselfish demeanor was something we will all remember and cherish. His mind was always working, inventing new games, or playing can jam, bocce ball, horseshoes and darts, to name a few.

His home away from home, his passion, and his meditation was working out at the gym. He took solace in that time. One could hear his music a mile away.

Each time Johnny arrived at our house, we could hear Clutch or Ozzy around the corner and would say, “Johnny’s here! ” He enjoyed listening to his son play the bass guitar and went to just about every gig to support him. He was able to see his daughter get married and was there for every part of their lives.

He loved the shore and lived in Belmar for a short time. We looked forward to visiting him and of course, throwing the Frisbee around in the ocean and “riding the waves! ” Johnny is predeceased by his mother, Joan Szabo.

He is survived by his father, John Robert Szabo; his children, Carly and her husband, AJ; his son, Jake; his sisters, Debbie Hul and her husband, Wolfgang, and Barbara Peluso and her husband, Joe; his significant other, Dana Ingandela and her children, Jack and Brooke; and many nieces, nephews, step nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Johnny would be grateful if you could share in the celebration of his life at Diamond’s of Hamilton located at 661 NJ 33 in Hamilton, NJ on Sunday, February 3rd from 11-2 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ.
