Obituary of John Moore age 78, died on Tuesday, September 25, 2018. Jack was born in Elmira, NY on August 28, 1940 to the late Ralph V. and Meredith B. Moore. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, John B. Moore.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Jeri; his daughters, Molly (Dan) Frankel of Medfield, MA and Mara (Pete) Salis of Natick, MA; his stepsons, Richard (Linda) Kimball of Horseheads, NY, and Alexander (Danielle) Brown of Elmira, NY; his grandchildren, Abby and Tay Frankel, George Salis, Megan and Jon Kimball, and Maxx, Ora and Miles Brown; and his loving brother and best friend, Dr. Ralph B. Moore and wife, Carolyn, and their children. Jack was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy (1958), Hamilton College (1962) and Cornell University School of Law (1965). Jack lived his entire life in his hometown of Elmira.

His greatest passions were his family, his community, the law and the game of golf. Upon graduating from Cornell, Jack returned to Elmira where he practiced law for 51 years. He was the Managing Partner at Moore & Woodhouse, LLP.

Over the course of 30 years, Jack also served his community as Justice and Town Attorney for the Town of Elmira, Assistant Chemung County Attorney, and a member of the New York State Committee on Professional Standards (Third Judicial Department). His love for Elmira was evident in everything he did. Jack was a 30 year volunteer with the LPGA Corning Classic, serving as Sponsorship Chairman and Vice Chair of the Bill Griffiths Pro-Am.

He was Director and President of multiple local organizations: Southern Tier Economic Growth (STEG), Chemung County Chamber of Commerce, Elmira Downtown Development, Elmira-Corning All Sports Committee, United Cerebral Palsy and Handicapped Children of Chemung County (Able2), Association of Retarded Citizens of Chemung County, Elmira Neighborhood House, and American Red Cross. Jack was a lifelong member of The Park Church. In addition to his love for his family and his hometown, Jack was devoted to honoring the legacy of his dear friend, Ernie Davis.

As co-captains, Jack and Ernie led the 1957 EFA Basketball team to its infamous 52-game winning streak. Jack was a founding member of the Ernie Davis Statue and Scholarship Committee, through which he celebrated Ernie’s character and their shared values. Family and friends are invited to call at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm.

A Memorial Service will be held at The Park Church, 208 W. Gray Street, Elmira, on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 11:00 am.
