OBITUARY Jose P Ybarra September 24, 1951 – December 1, 2018 Jose P. Ybarra, age 67, of San Antonio, passed away unexpectedly on December 1, 2018. He was born on September 24, 1951 to the late Enemencio and Maria (Pruneda) Ybarra. He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1970.
He graduated from San Antonio Community College and was currently a senior at St. Mary’s University, majoring in art. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from the dental lab at the Veterans Administration Hospital after 40 years of dedicated service; where he received many letters of Merit and Accolades for his talents in dental and facial prosthetics; including special recognition for having saved several lives due to his training in CPR.
He enjoyed painting and was a member of the San Antonio Art Gallery, he loved listening to music on his large vinyl collection, entertaining and barbecuing with family and friends, playing basketball and watching the San Antonio Spurs and The Dallas Cowboys, camping and spending time outdoors in nature. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. The memories of Jose will be cherished forever, he touched the lives of many and impacted everyone he knew.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Julia Vela; and his brother, Esmeraldo Ybarra. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dora Alicia Ybarra, of San Antonio; children, Joe Anthony Ybarra, Daniel (Esmeralda) Anthony Ybarra, Jennifer Ann Ybarra, Benjamin Anthony Ybarra, all of San Antonio; grandchildren, Kennedi, Daniel, Darrien, Yazmine, Luke, Gianna, Emma, Arriela, Jadon, Troy; siblings, Jesse (Rosa) Ybarra, Celia Martinez, Enemencio (Alicia) Ybarra, Irma (Roman) Aguirre, Ramiro (Sandra) Ybarra, Agustina (Mario) Reyes; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends he considered family. Family is receiving friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm; reciting the Rosary will commence at 7:00 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at St. Mary’s University, Guadalupe Chapel, on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 8:30 am. Graveside services with Military Honors will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, immediately following. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests donations made in his name to: St. Mary’s University Art Department, c/o The Art Fund, 1 Camino Santa Maria, San Antonio, Texas 78228.
