Joseph Anthony Hayes June 26, 1951 – January 16, 2019 Joseph Anthony Hayes, of Malden, died after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer, January 16th. Beloved husband of Dianne M. (Banda) Hayes. Loving father of Charles B. Hayes of Malden and Shawn M. Hayes and his wife Alex of Somerville.

Loving grandfather of Luke Ryan Hayes. Son of the late John M. Hayes and Mary T. (Becker) Hayes. He is survived by brothers; Michael Hayes and his wife Dorothy of Reading, Francis Hayes of Medford, George Hayes of Everett, John Hayes and his wife Marybeth of Winchester the late Steven Hayes and his wife Silvia of Ashburnham; and by his sisters; Theresa Dobson and her husband Thomas of Medford and Mary Anne Morin and her husband Mark of Harvard.

Joe was the loving uncle of 20 nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews. Joe was a 1970 graduate of Medford Vocational High School. He attended a 2 year mechanical engineering school.

He started working part time for Stop & Shop at the age of 16 in 1967. After beginning work full time, he was elected to the Executive Board of the UFCW Local 1445 in 1975. He continued to work for Stop & Shop until he became a Business Agent for UFCW Local 1445 in 2003.

Born: June 26, 1951 Death: January 16, 2019 He retired in July 2016. During these years he helped many of the union members with anything from a suspension, understanding their benefits or filing for their retirement. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden on Saturday January 26th at 10 AM.
