Ret. MSgt. Joseph A. Schroff, Jr. passed away on September 30, 2018 with his family by his side.

He was born in New Haven, CT on October 26, 1951 and was the son of the late Joseph A. Schroff and Charlotte Murphy Schroff of West Haven, CT. He entered the United States Air Force in May 1975 and earned Associate Degrees in Weather Technology and Business Administration, in addition to Management Training from the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy and Leadership Schools. Throughout his 21-year… Read More » Air Force career he received multiple Distinguished awards including NCO of the Quarter, Chief of Weather Station Operations, and Officer in Charge of Operating Location Headquarters- Air Weather Service in Fort Ritchie, MD.

A highlight of his career was offering Presidential Meteorological Support at Camp David. He retired as a Master Sergeant in October 1995 and then went on to pursue a career with the Internal Revenue Service and fully retired in 2013. He is survived by two daughters; Melissa Schroff Stephens of Erie, PA and her partner Eric Rinderle and children Blake, Lauren, and Benjamin and Rachel Schroff Heilman of Tega Cay, SC and her husband Rob and children Jett and Macks.

He is also survived by partner Mary Null, two sisters Doreen Schroff Gallagher and JoAnn Schroff Bosco, a brother-in-law Salvatore Bosco, and multiple nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a sister Mary Lou Schroff Hemstock and brother-in-law Harry Hemstock. He was a member of the American Legion Post #15, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1191, and VFW Post #695.

He enjoyed annual trips to Aruba and Florida with family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Waynesboro Country Club on Saturday October 13, 2018. A ceremony rendering Military Honors will be held promptly at 2:00pm and the family will receive friends in the clubhouse after.

Joseph will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in a private service.
