Obituary for Joseph Chevalier Joseph Berthony Chevalier, 94, passed peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born on August 7, 1924, in the coastal commune of Port-Salut, Haiti, and was the son of the late William and Eunide Chevalier. In Haiti, Bertho, which he was lovingly called by family and friends, attended the L’école des Frères du Sacré-Coeur.
In 1947, he was married to the late in Janette Chevalier and had 8 children. He was also a father to 7 other children. In later years, he became a member of the mayoral committee for two years then went to work for the company Service National d’Eradication de la Malaria (SNEM).
Bertho later immigrated to the United States in the late 1970s in search of a better life and promising opportunities. He was a great story teller, capitivating his audience with his latest anecdotes and was always speaking his mind proudly and freely. His personality, keen wit and great sense of humor caused many people to gravitate towards him.
Bertho was very popular and well liked. God blessed Bertho with 94 years of a fulfilling life here and has now called him home. He will always be remembered as a charismatic and funny man and will truly be missed!
Joseph Berthony Chevalier is survived by 15 children, 26 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one sister, two nieces, three nephews, 10 cousins and a host of other relatives.
