Obituary for Joseph “Joe” Brocco Joseph “Joe” Brocco, 84, of Pawleys Island, died Monday October 1, 2018. Born on May 30, 1934 in Ridgewood, NY, he was the son of the late John Brocco and Margaret Santacroce. Raised from humble beginnings, Joe served and was admirably discharged from the US Air Force from February 1953-Feb 1957, entered the New York City Fire Department in October 1959 where he rose to the rank of Battalion Chief before retiring in 1993.

During this time, he was a devoted husband and father, coaching his sons’ baseball teams, making major improvements to their family home in Bethpage, and even built the brick garage still in use today. After retiring, he and his wife moved to Pawleys Island, SC where they lived together for 24 years. Known for his exceptional work ethic and mechanical aptitude, Joe was often seen maintaining his home, cars, property, and helping neighbors.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Joan Brocco; sons John (Cheryl) and Michael Brocco; grandson Aidan Joseph Brocco; sisters Marie DeFinis and Theresa Piccininni (Mike); nieces Jeanette Fuoco (Joe) and Claire Haas (Brian); as well as the many friends whose life he touched. The service for Joe will be held at 12 o’clock on Monday October 8th at Precious Blood of Christ Church, 1633 Waverly Road, Pawleys Island, SC 29585. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (www.
