Joseph Maberto Jr., 95 of Bicknell, passed away March 11, 2019, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. Joseph was born on, July 26, 1923, in Bicknell, Indiana, the son of Joseph Sr. and Irene (Lee) Maberto. Joseph married Mary (Kate) Vaught and they spent 71 years together, and she survives.

He was the owner and operator of the Sinclair Marathon, in downtown Bicknell for 42 years with the help of his stepbrother. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bicknell, where he served as trustee and many other positions. Joseph Honorably served his country in the Army during World War II, joining the 36th Infantry Division as Communication Sergeant in Oran, North Africa.

He was on the front lines as they invaded Italy, he earned the Silver Star Medal for his actions in San Petro, Joseph was shot in the Head on Angis Beach, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for his service beyond the call of duty. He made the Invasion into the south of France where he fought through Germany. By the end of the war they had fought all the way to Austria.

Along with the previous awards Joseph respectfully was awarded the Purple Heart, European Theater ribbon with five bronze starts and an Arrowhead, The Army of Occupation in Germany Medal, the Combat Infantryman badge and the Good Conduct ribbon. France also awarded Joseph with the Knight of the Legion of Honor Medal. Along with his wife Kate, He is survived by his Children, Jeffrey (Sherry) Maberto of Indianapolis, Sharon (Randy) Hobson of Bicknell, Karen (Curtis) Scott of Oaktown, and Marsha (Pat) Blair of Vincennes.

Nine Grandchildren, and Seventeen Great-grandchildren also survive. His parents, sister Doris DeCoursey, Step Mother Mary Maberto and a Step Brother Stanly Yatsko, and a Stepsister Mary Kovaleski preceded Joseph in death. Funeral Service will be held Friday March 15, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. At the First Baptist Church, 317 Washington St. Bicknell, Indiana 47512, with Seth Alexander Officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday March 14th from 3:00 P.M. until 7 :00 P.M. at the Church Memorial Donations in Joseph’s Memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bicknell, 317 Washington St. Bicknell, Indiana 47512.
