He is survived by his wife Lois Anne Muertz, nee Roever; children Melinda (Darren) Kiefer, Jennifer (Jody) Stapleton, Stephanie Muertz, & Amanda (Travis) Gilliam; grandchildren Adam, Evan, & Emma Kiefer, Daniel Stapleton, Cole & Olivia Gilliam; sisters & brothers Dolores Johanning, Herbert (Janie) Muertz, Rosann Kohnz, Mary Jean Wuertz, & Richard (Nancy) Muertz; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; & cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents Peter W. & Agatha (nee Wuertz) Muertz; sister Geraldine Davis; brothers Theodore, George, and Edward Muertz; and nephew/Godson Brent Roever. Joseph was a former member of Immaculate Conception Church – Madonnaville, retired from Local #196, US Air Force Veteran, and member of Valmeyer American Legion.
