Obituary for Joseph Patrick Whealon Joseph Patrick Whealon (67) passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on December 8, 2018. Born in East St. Louis, IL, Joe is the beloved father of daughter, Julia R. (Whealon) Greco, and her husband Tim Greco; and son Edward J. Whealon, and his wife Lisa Favignano-Whealon. Doting grandfather to Edward Joseph Pasquino Greco, Sophia Rose Whealon, Ava Kathleen Whealon, and Elsa Julia Greco.

Cherished baby brother to Mary Charles Whealon and Margaret (Jim) Sparks. Dear friend to Richard Moran and Rebecca Rose (Kastner) Brown. He held his family in Denver, CO particularly close to his heart: nephews Timothy P., John O. and Todd D. (Kristen) Whealon, their mother, Patricia Whealon, and his great-niece Reese Ann Whealon.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Charles M. and Elsie Julia (Clements) Whealon, and his brother J. Daniel Whealon, Mary’s twin. Joe was a graduate of Subiaco Academy, Saint Louis University, and Harris-Stowe State College. He was curious about the world, followed politics as sport, and loved books – both digital and the old-fashioned paper kind – to the very end.

Joe loved St. Louis and its institutions, the Cardinals above all else. He took his children and grandchildren to baseball games, museums, and symphonies. He sent friends funny videos, books, articles, anything at all if it had made him think of you.

Manicotti Nights were legendary and there was always enough food and love to go around. Joe’s family will be celebrating his life on Monday, December 17 at Jay B. Smith Funeral Home in Maplewood, MO from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, with a memorial service beginning at 7:00. All are welcome to attend.
