The Mass of Christian burial for Joseph Stoderl will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday May 4, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bertha, with Father Mitchell Bechtold as celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. On Tuesday, April 30, 2019, one day before his 89th birthday, Joe passed away due to injuries from a car accident near Bertha, MN.

Joseph was born on May 1, 1930, in Ottertail County to Mathias and Helen (Tigges) Stoderl. He attended Country School 180 in Wadena through the 8th grade. After spending the winter of 1955 in Missouri, Joe returned to Minnesota and worked in Albert Lea until 1959.

He then moved to Owatonna and worked at a local feed store before purchasing a farm outside of Bertha in 1969. Joe was united in marriage to Sherry Fitzer in 1995, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bertha. He enjoyed being outdoors while hunting and fishing, and was talented at restoring old carriages.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry on February 19, 2010; and his parents, Mathias and Helen. He is survived by a sister Bernice Scholl of MI; nephews Tom Scholl (Rebecca Kruszka) and their son Max Scholl, Tim (Donna) Scholl and their daughter Julia Scholl; niece Terry (Bill) Haynes; along with numerous relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Ervin Price, Dick Buettner, Amos Miller, Eli Miller, Pat Tigges, and Mary Jo Petersen.
