Obituary for Joseph Thomas Dixon Joseph Thomas Dixon “Joe” of Clinton, MD died on June 14, 2018 at the age of 85. Born in Washington, DC one of three sons to Mary Anna Hruska Dixon and James Edward Dixon. Joe grew up on a tobacco farm in Pomonkey, MD where his family also raised livestock.
He grew up loving to fish, crab and hunt; traits that he passed on to his grandchildren. Joe planted a garden that he cultivated each year in his own backyard where he always had an abundance of tomatoes and vegetables. Joe entered the US Navy in 1952.
While stationed in New York, he met Anita Christine Parris at a dance. They were immediately smitten with each other and married on October 15, 1955. Anita set up home in New York until Joe was discharged in 1957.
From there they moved to the Washington, DC area and then to PG county where they finally settled in Clinton in 1968. No one understands the life of a US Service member better than one who has made the same commitment to our country. Throughout the years, Joe remained a Patriot.
Joe initially worked as a bus mechanic for the National Capital Transportation. In 1966, the company changed to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) where he moved into a supervisory position. He retired in 1992.
Joe could be described as stubborn, but there was no one more generous and dependable. He would help others whenever needed. He enjoyed driving his red Mustang, going to casinos, fishing in the Outer Banks, cruising on a big ship with his beloved Anita or just hanging out with his family.
He loved teaching his grandchildren some of the things that he enjoyed during his whole life. Beloved husband for 62 years of Anita C. Dixon; devoted father of Joseph R. Dixon of Clinton, MD, Doreen L. Dixon-Bell (John W. Bell) of Shady Side, MD, Suzanne K. Tutwiler (Tony Tutwiler) of Cary, NC and Denise A. Bong (Russell Bong) of Hamilton, VA; dear brother of Fr. Bell, V of Annapolis, MD, Gina Anita Bell of Shady Side, MD, Tiffany Nicole Tutwiler of Cary, NC, Christopher Joseph Tutwiler of Cary, NC, Anthony Thomas Tutwiler of Cary, NC and Max Dixon Bong of Hamilton, VA.
