She was born March 19, 1929 in Watertown, WI the daughter of Henry William and Viola (Dugan) Wilde. Jo was united in marriage to Charles Daniel Metcalf, who was from Shullsburg, WI, on March 31, 1951 in Watertown.

Following her marriage, Jo and Charles lived in Madison, WI, Waukesha, WI, and in 1980 in Monroe.
