Obituary for Joseph “Joe” Fabits Joseph Paul Fabits, Jr. of Bentonville, Arkansas died November 24, 2018. He was born July 28, 1934 to Joseph and Lillian Fabits in Weehawkin, New Jersey. He is survived by his wife and best friend for over 58 years, Marilyn; sons, Steve of Michigan and Timothy and wife Melissa of Arizona; sister June of Florida; brothers, Rudy and Allen Ferguson; sister-in-law Janice Christian; grandchildren Philip, Connor, Sophia, Griffin, Cullen, Alexandra, Brianna, Nicole and Steven, Jr

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Walter, his beloved daughter Eva Marie and son Joseph III. Joe enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at age 17, he served in Korea from 1952-56. He was in the military police and trained dogs for use in Vietnam.

He received many medals and commendations. Joe retired with over 20 years in the Air Force. He joined the Green Oak, Michigan police department and became the police chief two years later.

When politics entered the job, Joe resigned and went to work for the sheriff’s department as a road deputy. He worked his way up to major crime detective. In 1980 Joe was selected to start a new police department in Hamburg, Michigan as chief with great success.

He was chief there until 1985. Joe became a security officer for Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He became security coordinator for the 635 bed hospital until he retired in 2006.

Joe and Marilyn moved to Bentonville. Never one to rest Joe started the security department at the VA nursing home in Fayetteville. He stayed there until 2013, then helped open the Cabela’s store in Rogers.

Illness forced him to retire after three years with Cabela’s. Joe was much loved and will be missed by many. He adored his Dr. Rossitza Hristoskova whom he called his angel on earth.

Also I want to thank Circle of Life Hospice especially Rona, his nurse. Cremation has taken place with a memorial scheduled in January 2019.
