Obituary of Joseph Marquette Jr. Joseph Roch “Joe” Marquette, 72, of Woodland Hills, California, passed away on February 6, 2019 in Thousand Oaks, California Joe was born in Santa Monica, California to Joseph and Glendora Marquette on March 13, 1946. Joe went to William Howard Taft High School in Woodland Hills where he played football. After graduating in 1963, he attended Pierce College and joined the school newspaper as a photographer.

In his quest for the social opportunities of college life, Joe pledged the Sigma Delta Fraternity in 1964. Joe became a very active member of Sigma Delta and was a driving force in forging the incredible brotherhood that is the magic that keeps our group together until this day. Because of his efforts, the special bond of Sigma Delta Brothers and Sisters will continue well into the future.

Following in his fathers’ footsteps, Joe was a member of the International Cinematographers Guild, in the Motion Picture industry for over 50 years. He was the camera operator on the Academy Award winning movie, Raging Bull, among others. Joe was always a professional at his craft, whether it was loading magazines or operating the camera.

Joe was a sports enthusiast who avidly followed the LA Dodgers, Lakers, Rams, and the University of Southern California Trojans. He was a low-handicap golfer who won numerous tournaments and was a member of the Woodland Hills Country Club for many years. Joe’s love of sports was born from his dad.

Joe Sr. would take “Little Joe” to the LA Coliseum on weekends to film whatever sport event was being played. During these special moments with his father, Joe was learning his cameraman craft without even realizing it. He started setting up the camera for his dad when he was only 14 years old.

As a very active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over twenty years, Joe sponsored many new members. He served on the Board of Trustees of the men’s recovery house in Canoga Park for twelve years. Joe is extremely grateful for the many opportunities he had to be of service.

Joe is survived by his nephew Evan Lauretz and numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by his father Joseph R. Marquette Jr., his mother Glendora Rapp Marquette, and his sister, Judy Lauretz. Funeral service will be held at Rose Family Funeral Home at 4444 Cochran St., Simi Valley, California, on March 7, 2019 at 12:00 PM.

There will be a viewing at Rose Family from 11:00 until 12:00 prior to the service. Rabbi Arthur Rosenberg, CPC, Leonard Nimoy Palliative Care Chaplain, Motion Picture Television Fund, will be officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park, 22601 Lassen St, Chatsworth, California.

Joe asked to have a celebration of his life at one of his favorite gathering places, the Woodland Hills Country Club. Please join his family and friends immediately following the internment. 21150 Dumetz Rd, Woodland Hills, California.

Joe will be missed by all who knew him, but we can find peace in knowing he is pain free and reunited with his beloved parents, and sister. Joe was looking forward to reuniting with the Brothers of Sigma Delta who have gone before him. The Family wants to thank the hospital staff at Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks who took such wonderful care of Joe during his final days.

Our moments with him will always be cherished memories for us all. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to Cabrito Foundation, 7552 Remmet St., Canoga Park, CA 91303 in Joe’s name.
