OBITUARY Joyce E. Matthews March 22, 1938 – January 16, 2019 Joyce Evalene Matthews of Lake Stevens, WA passed away on Jan. 14, 2019 in her home. Joyce was born on Mar.

22, 1938 in Yakima, WA to James & Mary Carlton; she was the younger of 2 children. She spent her early years in the lower valley. She graduated from Toppenish High School where she was active in F.H.A., G.A.A. (Girls Athletic Association), choir as well as working on the yearbook & the Glee Club.

She attended Linfield College in OR. Joyce was known for her infectious laughter, love of life and caring heart. In 2002, she met and married George Matthews, her soulmate and best friend.

They loved car races, playing board games, going to concerts, & attending plays together. They were very active and especially loved the Lake Stevens Senior Center. They spent many enjoyable hours there with friends.

Joyce had 3 children, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George, her brother, Robert, & her son, Mart. Joyce is survived by her son, Jim Wilson, of Mattawa & her daughter, Davette Matthews, of Mukilteo.

A celebration of Joyce’s life will be on Feb. 9th at 2:00pm. It will be held at the senior center that she loved so much- Lake Stevens Senior Center, 2302 Soper Hill Rd, Lake Stevens, WA 98258.
