Juanita’s Obituary Juanita E.(Apodaca) Mares 90, of Springer, New Mexico passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2019 at her home. She was born February 8, 1929 in Taylor Springs, New Mexico. She was the daughter of Arminio and Antonia Apodaca.

On November 27,1950 Juanita married the love of her life Gilbert Mares. Juanita and Gilbert spent many years raising a family in New Mexico. Juanita is preceded in death by her parents Arminio and Antonia Apodaca, sisters Dora Pineda, Oclires Gabbert, Margaret Esquibel, brothers Anselmo Apodaca Sr., Roger Apodaca, one infant brother Ernest, and one daughter Pauline DePari.

Juanita is survived by her husband of 68 years, Gilbert Mares of the home. One brother Joe Apodaca of Springer, One son Leonard and wife Denine Mares of Kansas, two daughters Rose Briggs and companion Robert Valenzuela of Springer, Mary Ann and husband Mike O’Neil of Colorado Springs. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren: Nicole Herrera, Jessica DePari, April Butler, James Butler, Joseph DePari, Renne O’Neil, Tierza Rose Torrez, and 12 great grandchildren.

Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary will be held Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 10 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Springer, New Mexico recited by Stella Aguilar. Solemn Mass of The Resurrection will be Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Springer, New Mexico. With Father Trieu as the celebrant.

Right of committal and internment will follow at Springer Cemetery. Arrangements for Juanita E. Mares are under the direction of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home.
