Juanita Toronjo, 94, of West Orange, Texas, passed away on May 1, 2019, in Orange. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 10, 2019, at Winfree Baptist Church in Orange. Officiating will be her son, Dr. David Toronjo.
Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Born in Orange, Texas, in the Winfree Community, on October 25, 1924, she was the daughter of Minnie (Winfree) Sarver and LoRanzy Sarver. Juanita worked as a Vault Teller at Orange Bank for over 40 years before retiring to spend time with her family.
She was very active in Winfree Baptist Church where her father was one of the founders. She was also very active in Orange County history and involved in the Historical Society of Orange, was the Treasurer, Editor, and Publisher of the Las Sabinas Magazine, was appointed to the Historical Commission by the Governor of Texas, served on the Board for Orange Christian Services, as well as being a longtime member and officer of the Texas A&M Mother’s Club. History was Juanita’s first love.
She wrote lots about the history of Winfree, volunteered at the Heritage House Trunk Shows, wrote a column for the Beaumont Enterprise Newspaper called “This Day in History”, and even did oral history presentations for numerous schools in the area. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who adored her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Walter Toronjo; parents, Minnie and LoRanzy Sarver; and her sisters, Lois Duhon and Doris Sarver. Juanita is survived by her children, David Toronjo and wife Tallula, of Huntsville and Annette Allen and husband Chris, of Orange; grandchildren, Heather Roberts and husband Taylor, Mark Toronjo and wife Bonnie, Rachel Toronjo and Ed Hemphill, Macy Toronjo, Will Toronjo, Katie Worthy and husband Tyler, and Jordan Allen; great-grandchildren, Alex, Max, Desi, Thomas, Jacob, Carson, Adalynn, and Tucker; and her siblings-in-law, Jimmy, Yvonne, Ray, Jay, Dale, and Gayle; along with numerous other loving family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Jordan Allen, Tyler Worthy, Mark Toronjo, Will Toronjo, Terrell Vance, John David Vance, and Robert Montagne.
