She was 75. Judy was born on October 30, 1943 in Hutchinson, Kansas the daughter of Allen and Dorothy Osenbough Manche.

She married Kenneth Mackey on September 19, 1961 in Liberal, Kansas. Surviving family members include: husband, Ken Mackey of the home; son, Timothy (Karlene) Smith of Everton, Missouri; daughters, Kimberly Mackey, and Shawna (Bob) Bell both of Cottonwood Falls; grandchildren, Jeremy Bell, Jessica Bell, James Bell, Heather (Justin) Titus, Joshua (Liz) Smith, and Hannah Smith; great-grandsons, Toby and Jace Titus; brothers, Eddie Manche, Lonnie Manche, Danny Manche, Clifford Manche, and Tom Manche; sisters, Donna Sallee, and Jackie Crossman; and her aunt Gwen Destefan. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Terry Manche, and sisters Carol and Alisa.

Judy was a talented artist of the Flint Hills for 56 years. The artwork of Judith Mackey hangs in museums and permanent collections nationwide, including the Kansas Governor’s Mansion and the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. Her honors are innumerable: “PrairyErth” Original Cover, first woman in American Royal Western Art Association, American Women Artists Master Member, Save America’s Treasures at the White House, Bill Kurtis’ Artist in Residence.

Her love of painting the Flint Hills was second only to her love for the Lord and her family. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the Flint Hills Community Church in Cottonwood Falls with burial at Miller Cemetery, Cottonwood Falls. The casket will remain closed.

Memorial contributions to the Judith Mackey Memorial Fund to be designated later can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
