OBITUARY Judith Campbell Pinney March 9, 1935 – July 10, 2018 Judith C. Pinney, 83, formerly of Cumberland Foreside and Camden, Maine passed away on Tuesday morning, July 10 at Foreside Harbor, surrounded by family. She was born on March 9, 1935 in Summit, N.J. daughter of Rev. Thomas H. Campbell and Charlotte H. Campbell.
Judy and her brothers Tom and David spent many memorable times with family in Wiscasset. They had the opportunity to go sailing with their grandfather on the Sheepscot River. She lived in various parts of New England growing up, as her father was a minister.
Judy graduated from Abington High School and two years later graduated from Westbrook Junior College, studying Early Childhood Education. She moved to Boston and while working there she met Cedric Joyce, her first husband. Cedric and Judy were married in Abington, MA on July 14, 1956 and then moved to Camden, Maine, his hometown.
They built a home together, raising four children, Chris, Peter, Melissa and Elizabeth. Judy had a nursery school in their home for many years, which gave her an opportunity to get to know the community. She was in Women’s Club and was a member at the First Congregational Church.
After Cedric’s death in 1973 Judy worked at The Henderson School, Camden Rockport Schools as a aide and later was volunteer coordinator and activity director at Camden Healthcare Center. She also cared for her widowed mother, Charlotte who had moved to Camden in the late seventies. Judy later met Eugene Pinney and August 17, 1985 they married.
Together they designed and had a retirement home built. Judy now retired with Gene, enjoyed traveling, fishing, cross country skiing and boating. Several winters they shared ski vacations at Sunday River with their families, enjoying the downhill slopes, cross country trials, great meals and wonderful conversations.
She volunteered at Pen-Bay Medical Center in the ER and the nursery. She also volunteered at the church, and served at the soup lunches. Judy always had a project or two going, always for someone else, usually for her grandchildren.
Knitting hats/mittens/scarves, making dolls and stuffed animals, personalized pillow cases, painting apple baskets to fill with toys, painting pie baskets, quilts, aprons; she did it all. Gene passed away in March 2005, after a long illness and Judy remained in Camden until 2013, when she moved to Yarmouth and then to Cumberland Foreside to be closer to her family. She loved being with her family, always enjoyed being a part of birthday celebrations, holidays, meals, The Clam Festival Parade, any excuse to be together.
A few months ago her health began to decline and she required more support and moved to an assisted living facility in Falmouth. Judy is survived by her four children, son Christopher Joyce and his wife Rebecca, son Peter Joyce and his partner Elizabeth Smith, daughter, Melissa Russell and daughter, Elizabeth Inniss and her husband Peter; grandchildren, Phoebe Joyce Newman and husband Joseph, Rachael Joyce Martelle and husband Andrew, Loren Joyce and wife Olivia, Sadie Russell, Ella Russell, Molly Barter and Shelby Inniss; great grandchildren, Fox and Hutch, Wilder, August and Sam, and Cedric; brothers, Thomas Campbell and wife Pat, and brother, David Campbell and wife Dinah and many nieces and nephews.
