OBITUARY Judith Diane Stephens July 31, 1935 – November 4, 2018 Judith Diane Nussbaum Stephens (83), passed away peacefully on November 4, 2018, at Celeste Care in Horseshoe Bay. Judy, beloved wife, mother and grandmother is survived by her husband Bart, son Kirk and his wife Terrye of Red Oak, Texas, their daughter Shannon Graham, her husband David and their son Jaxson Graham of Pinehurst, Texas. She is also survived by son Kyle, his wife Elizabeth and their children, Ben and Samantha, of Spring, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Paul B. Nussbaum of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and her brother, Paul Stowell Nussbaum of Meadowlakes, Texas. Judy was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on July 31st, 1935. After spending her childhood in Cape Girardeau, she attended and was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State College in 1957 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, focusing on speech therapy.

She was member of the Tri-Delta Sorority. During a college graduation trip to Hawaii, a mutual friend introduced her to United States Marine Corps Captain, Barton Cleveland Stephens who was stationed in Hawaii at the time. They were married on December 29, 1957.

After spending about 18 months in Hawaii, they returned to the mainland United States and settled back in Missouri where Judy taught elementary school in the St. Louis area. The family relocated to California in 1966. After a short time in Northbrook, Illinois, the family moved to Dallas, Texas in 1970.

There she became an active member of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church and North Dallas PEO chapter, a women’s philanthropic educational organization. During retirement Judy and Bart moved to Horseshoe Bay in 1994. There they became active members of The Church at Horseshoe Bay.

Judy was blessed with a beautiful voice and singing and music was a joy of Judy’s life. She sang in the church choir for 22 years and also participated in the Bluebonnet Chorale of Highland Lakes. She was also an active member of the PEO chapter at Horseshoe Bay and enjoyed golf and the social life in the area.

She will be greatly missed by friends and family and her legacy lives on through her children and grandchildren. A private internment ceremony will be held at the Houston National Cemetery and celebration of Judy‘s life will be held at The Church at Horseshoe Bay on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 11:00am. A reception will follow.
