PIERCE, Judith Murphy, age 82, of Oakwood passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018. Judith was born to Ebbie and Mildred (nee West) Murphy on November 29, 1935 in Jeffersonville, OH. She graduated from Fairview High School in 1953 and went on to attend The Ohio State University where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.

She earned undergraduate degree in Education from Gardener Webb, and a Master’s Degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Judy was a 5th grade teacher in the Cleveland County Schools in Waco, NC for 5 years and then Four Oaks in Xenia for 35 years. As a resident of Albany, Georgia, Judy served on Governor Jimmy Carter’s Education Council.

She also served as the president of Albany, Georgia Jr Women’s Club, was a member of the Garden Club, and was a scout leader for boys and girls. Judy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Harvey Pierce; children, Karrie Payne of NC, Kevin King of NC, Jim Pierce, MD of Columbus, Jeff (Carol) Pierce of Kettering; grandchildren, Hadley Payne, Tyler King, Abby King, Allison Pierce, Eryn Pierce, Zach (Erin) Pierce, Cassidy (Ryan) Wright; great granddaughter, Eloise Wright.

Surviving siblings, Brenda Ingram, Dick (Mary Jeanne) Overcash, Beth (Bill) Walborn, and 5 nieces and 4 nephews. A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, September 23 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E Stroop Rd, Kettering with a visitation to follow at the funeral home.
