Julia G. Brown, the eighth child of twelve, born March 23, 1933 to the late Oliver and Zellie Hawkins-Crittenden, departed this life Sunday, June 10, 2018 at her resident. Julia confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at the New Pilgrim Baptist Church of River Falls, AL under the leadership of the late Rev. Womack.

After graduating High School, she moved to Dayton, Ohio. She joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the late Rev.

D.L. Demus. After years of service, she became a member of Mt. Moriah under the leadership of the late Rev.

Morris Smith. She was a founding member of United Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. Dr. Charles Fair.

During this time, she served as treasurer and secretary for the Sunday School and Deaconess Ministries, first pianist, choir director and singer until her death. She was a pianist for fifty plus years. She was an amazing mom, wife, grandmother, and friend.

Her model to live by was, “Give me my flowers while I yet live”. She faithfully served the United Missionary Baptist Church until succumbing to her illness. Her legacy will live on through her family, friends, church members, youth, and the community she impacted each day.

Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Brown; son, Milton Gamble; brothers and sisters, John Crittenden, Cary Crittenden, Preston Crittenden, Babe Crittenden, Clyde Russell, Ester Bell Foster, Essie Mays, Callie C. Abner, and Mary Todd. Julia is survived by her son, Steven (Racqueal) Gamble of Dayton, OH; brothers and sisters, Rev. Robert (Rose) Crittenden and Rev.

Charles Crittenden of Louisville, KY, Zellie Phillips and Minnie Wilkerson of River Falls, AL; a beloved grandmother better known as “Grani” to Jasmine Gamble, Ronald Douds, and Aunjela Gamble, all of Dayton, OH, Martell (Tiffany) Gamble of McKinney, TX; a great grandmother to Imari and Chase Oliver, Jaylen Johnson, all of Dayton, OH, Grace Gamble of McKinney, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, June 16, 2018 at United Missionary Baptist Church, 900 Lexington Ave. Pastor Leroy Cothran officiating.

Visitation 9 am at the church until time of service. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Internment West Memory Gardens.
