Obituary for Mr. Julian Edwin Sjordal Sjordal, Julian “Jules” Edwin Age 92, of Minnetonka, passed away peacefully July 18, 2018. Preceded in death by parents, Edwin and Mabel Sjordal, and son, Craig. Jules was born in Duluth, MN and graduated from Duluth Central HS.
He served in the US army in Italy during WWII; after VE Day he played clarinet in the 117th/74th AGF Army Band. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of MN and Master’s Degree in ME from the University of IL. Jules married the love of his life, Janice, in 1952.
Throughout their life together they enjoyed many activities: golf, tennis, dancing and cross-country skiing with friends. They enjoyed family vacations and weekend ski trips with their children Lynn and Craig. In retirement they continued to enjoy travel and golf; they volunteered at the U of M Landscape Arboretum for many years, making dear friends along the way.
Jules worked at McQuay, Inc. reaching the level of VP, Engineering during his career. Active in professional organizations, ASHRAE and ARI, he also played in the Fridley City Band, served on the Fridley School Board and coached Mtka. Youth hockey.
He was a member of the Wayzata Masonic Lodge and Zuhrah Temple for many years. In his retirement years he played in the Zuhrah Concert Band, Flames, German Band and Dixie Cats as well as the Richfield Legion Band and Lutheran Synod Sr. Band. Jules is survived by wife, Janice and daughter Lynn (Brian) Weist.
Funeral service Thursday, July 26th, 10AM at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 715 Minnetonka Mills RD, Hopkins, MN 55343. Visitation one hour prior to service. Private interment Ft.
Snelling Nat’l Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Gethsemane Lutheran Church or U of M Landscape Arboretum. Special thanks to staff of the Glenn Minnetonka and St. Croix Hospice for their caring and kindness to Jules and our family.
