Julia Patric Porter Jr , January 27, 1940 — November 14, 2018

Julian Patrick Porter, Jr. (78) of Chesterfield passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. He was born on January 27, 1940 in Severn, NC, son of the late Julian P. Porter and Julian “Jay” W. Porter. He graduated from Wake Forest University and received his Masters from the University of Virginia.

He dedicated his life to education, served as the history department chair and golf coach at Meadowbrook High School and Bird High School and retired from Chesterfield County Public Schools. Besides being an award-winning teacher, he was the creator and executive producer of Battle of the Brains, a televised academic quiz show that has been broadcasted for over 30 years. In addition, he was also a professional piano player who performed throughout the region.

He was preceded in death by his brother James “Jim” W. Porter. He is survived by his wife, Joyce G. Porter, his son Julian Patrick Porter, III (Kelly), his daughter Julie Porter Walton (James), and grandchildren Elizabeth Porter, Jameson Walton, and Julia Porter. A celebration of life ceremony will take place on the morning of Monday, November 19th at 11:00 at the Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service at 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23234.
